DEAR FRIENDS!

ASSABHRUS presents to you one of the most unique universities of the world - Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (PFUR), known first of all by the fact that the students from more than 100 countries of the world annually are enrolled to studies there. This phenomenon itself is important because the studies in this university brings the international students closer to one another through social and cultural activities carried out by national students unions that gives huge opportunities for realization of personal contacts and professional communications at the international level for the future graduates of University.

During the passed years PFUR has obtained popularity and respect as an advanced educational center of the country, occupying one of the top places among Russian universities. It has become possible due to unique collective of the scientific and pedagogical workers, who realize indeed the national traditions and principles of Higher education. These days about 12 thousand graduate and post-graduate students are being trained in the university while the staff consists of 1530 teachers, from which 300 - full professors and doctors of sciences and more than 800 - lectures and assistant professors. Since its foundation in 1960 the University has produced about 36 thousand gradients (including 3500 PhD holders), who are working nowadays in 164 countries of the world in all continents and in advanced countries as well. The unique experience of our teachers takes into account features of various educational systems of those countries, where the international students come from, and includes into study programs those special courses and disciplines to facilitate the work of the graduates in various regions of the world.

Major principle, to which the activity of University is dedicated to is to ensure the highest quality of professional education offered at PFUR. Status and history From the Charter of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (PFUR): The University of Peoples' Friendship was founded by the decision of the Council of the Ministers of the USSR on February 5, 1960, and on February 5, 1992 by the decision of the Government of the country was renamed into the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia ".

The Peoples' Friendship University of Russia is the state higher educational institution under federal governance, the activity of which is based on both humanitarian and democratic traditions of domestic and world culture, science, education... "

The Founder of the University is the Government of Russian Federation. The powers of the Founder of University are carried out by the Ministry of education of Russian Federation ".

The Peoples' Friendship University of Russia is an autonomous higher educational institution its employees and students both enjoy academic freedom. Autonomy of the University is understood as its independence in selection of the staff, realization of educational, methodical and scientific work... "

For 40 years, past from the moment of the foundation of the University, it has received the world popularity and deserved the authority as a large international center of education and science occupying the third place in a rating of the Russian classical universities. The diploma of this University is considered as the most prestigious and is widely recognized internationally. Annually the University enrolls to Bachelor and Master degrees courses about ten thousand students from more than 114 countries of the world; besides, 1500 of specialists undergo postgraduate advanced training, PhD and doctorate programs every year. Since its creation the University has prepared over 36 thousand gradients on degree level. They work in more than 164 countries of the world.

Being in the process of constant self-development and adaptation to growing demands of a modern society, the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia concentrates the activity on the following basic directions:

    • The realization by the employees, post-graduate students, trainees and students in unity within the educational process of a wide spectrum of fundamental and applied research and design works;
    • Postgraduate training, retraining and the improvement of professional skill of the experts, practitioners and pedagogical staff;
    • Realization of versatile links with universities, educational institutes and scientific establishments of foreign countries, including participation in development and realization of the target international programs in the sphere of science and education.

Features of PFUR

Specifies of the University determining its place in the system of Higher education of Russia, are as follows:

    • Standard for the advanced centers of the world higher school a combination of faculties - from humanitarian, social and natural - scientific up to medical, ecological, agricultural and applied engineering, - almost of all scale of the specialties representing an unlimited choice for those willing to receive modern and qualitative degree education, involving into educational process a wide circle of the scientists and the experts in various areas of human activity;
    • Orientation of the educational plans to individual work with the students - small quantitative structure of students' groups allowing deep acquisition of educational disciplines in all specialties;
    • Profound study of one or several foreign languages, obtaining alongside with the basic specialty of qualification the diploma of interpreter in one or several languages;
    • Significant density in the activity of the University of all forms of postgraduate studies ( refresher and Ph.D. courses), wide training of personnel of highest qualifications;

Staff and Honorable Doctorate

For performance of the general and specific tasks the University has all necessary resources and, first of all, its personnel. Now the faculty of the University counts 1530 teachers, including 300 full professors and doctors of sciences, 800 senior lecturers and assistant professors. Among the teachers - 57 full members and corresponding members of the academies of sciences of Russia, 27 are merited figures of the science of Russian Federation, 36 - honorable professors of the University, 12 teachers are the members of foreign academies. For outstanding merits in the field of a science and education and large contribution to development of friendship between the peoples 9 outstanding international figures have received a rank of the Honorable Doctorate of PFUR:

    • V.A.Sadovnichyi, rector of the Moscow State University, full member of the Academy of Sciences of Russia; the honorable rank was conferred in 1995;
    • Herward Otto, doctor of medical sciences, professor, director of Institute of pathology of the University of Heidelberg; the honorable rank was conferred in 1995;
    • Ulrikh Kunat, doctor of medical sciences, professor, director of surgical clinic of Free University of Berlin; the honorable rank was conferred in 1997;
    • Berenda Bir Bikram Shakha Dev, king of Nepal; the honorable rank was conferred in 1997;

FACULTIES AND MAJORS

Since 1988 the University has introduced a two-level system of higher education training (Bachelor-Master).

This system is applied to the majority of specialties (to 27 and 34). Graduates of some of the courses are not awarded with Bachelor Degree, they receive the Specialist Diploma with a corresponding degree. The duration of Bachelor course training is 4 years (excluding one year

of foundation training at the Preliminary Faculty). Successful graduates of Bachelor courses are awarded with the State Diploma and academic degree of Bachelor of Science/Arts.

The graduates of Bachelor courses have the right to enter Master courses with the duration of training of 2 years. On completion of training the graduates of Master courses are awarded with the State Diploma and academic degree of Master of Science/Arts.

Medical graduates with major "Medicine" (after 6 years of study exclusive of one year of foundation training at Preliminary Faculty) receive the State Diploma of a general practitioner and awarded with the academic degree of Medical Doctor (M D.). Medical graduates with major "Dentistry" (after 5 years of study exclusive of one year of foundation training at Preliminary Faculty) receive the State Diploma and awarded, with the academic degree of Master of Science in Dentistry (M Sc Dent.).

Graduates with the major "Pharmacy" (after 5 years of study exclusive of one year of foundation training at Preliminary Faculty) receive the State Diploma and awarded with the academic degree of Master of Science in Pharmacy (M.Sc.Pharm.).

Medical Faculty also performs training to the major "Nursing" (4 years exclusive of one year of foundation training at Preliminary Faculty). The graduates receive the State Diploma of Higher Education (Nursing).

There are some major at other faculties where the graduates receive the State Diploma of a Specialist.

The graduates of Agriculture Faculty with major "Veterinary medicine" (after 5 years of training exclusive of one year of foundation training at Preliminary Faculty) receive the State Diploma and are awarded with the academic degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery.

The graduates of Faculty of Sciences with major "Radio physics and Electronics" (after 5 years of study exclusive of one year of foundation training at Preliminary Faculty) receive the State Diploma of Specialist in the field of radio physics and electronics.

The graduates of Engineering' Faculty with major "Industrial Economics and Management" (after 5 years of study exclusive of one year of training at Preliminary Faculty) receive the State Diploma of Engineer-Economist. Beside that, the Engineering Faculty performs training to the courses where the graduates (after 5 years of study exclusive of one year of foundation training at Preliminary Faculty) apart from Bachelor Degree receive the State Diploma of Engineer (D.Eng. in Construction, Technology etc.)

Graduates of all major courses may take additional exam in Russian (or Foreign Language) in order to obtain the Diploma of Interpreter.

 DOCUMENTS REQUIRED AND CONDITIONS OF ADMITTANCE

Candidates for undergraduate (B.Sc./B.A.) training must have completed secondary education, confirmed with Certificate/Diploma recognized for admission to national universities.

Applicants are expected to submit the following particulars:

  1. Have the original of both certificates & transcripts (Bacc I & II) duly certified at the Ministries of National Education and Foreign Affairs
  2. Have the original of Birth Certificate
  3. Have a Medical certificate with all necessary tests results (HIV)
  4. Have 12 passport size pictures
  5. Have your copy of your national passport validated for 5 years.

CONTRACT

Foreign citizens, admitted to the University have to sign the Individual Contract. The Contract stipulates the cost of tuition, accommodation and medical care, The Contract defines the obligations of both parties: the Student and the University. According to the Contract University provides students with medical care which costs from US$250 to US$300, library & sporting facilities, and other services available at the University. Hostel accommodation is offered according to comfort categories and to be paid on special tariff. Undergraduate students' registration fee rate is $ 150 covering contract registration, consultancy, correspondence and inscription procedure costs.

The University's Fees (including tuition, accommodation, medical service) to be paid annually before September 15. Late payment of the fees will cause an inconvenience fine.

The tuition fee will be increased by 5 % annually starting from 3-rd year of major course training for the students who signed Contracts to study Medicine, Commerce, Dentistry, Law, Pharmacy, Russian Language and Literature, Economics, International Journalism, Management, Linguistics

The tuition fee will be reduced by 20 % for the current semester for students, who get only excellent results during the last 4 examination sessions (excluding the Preliminary course examinations). The reduction will be cancelled with the changing of academic performance.

Transport expenses to Moscow and back home after graduation to be covered by students or their sponsors.

Tuition Fee Rates and accommodation cost tariff are herewith attached. Payment of fees can be made by transfer through University's bank accounts.

Candidates enrolled at the University will be admitted to the Preliminary Faculty for one year to study Russian language and basic subjects of chosen major.

The academic year starts on September 1. Students successfully passed all exams of Preliminary course are transferred to the main faculties.

Faculties and centers

The PFUR operates with ten faculties: humanitarian and social sciences, engineering, medical, agricultural, physical, mathematical and natural sciences, philological, ecological, economics, law, and also faculty of foreign languages and general educational disciplines (preparatory).

The training is performed at the levels of Bachelor, Master, Ph.D., Doctorate, clinical medical specialization and pedagogical advanced courses. The more and more various forms of improvement of professional skill are offered through fast developing structures of the University: faculty of improvement of professional skill of the teachers of Russian as foreign and faculty of improvement of professional skill of the medical workers.

The educational process and research are reinforced with the Information technology center and scientific library. The National center of Russian Federation on academic mobility and recognition, and Scientific - information Center of foreign education are functioning within the PFUR. The University gives shelter to the " Center on study of philosophy and culture of East ", " Center of medical computer technologies ", " Scientific and industrial association ", " Center of pre-university education ", " Center of information support of the international communications of the higher school ", " Center of natural scientific education for humanitarians ", " Center of Russian language ", " Department of computer science under UNESCO ", " Inter-university faculty of musical cultures of the peoples of the world " etc.

The university includes the following branches:

    • Branch in Pereyaslavl - Zalesskyi (the Moscow area) conducts preparation of the experts on directions " Applied mathematics and computer science ", " Computer Science and calculating techniques ", "Sociology";
    • The branch in city of Yakutsk (Saha) is conducting training in specialities "Economics", "Agro-economics", "Jurisprudence";
    • The branch in the city Yessentuki (Stavropol region) is performing training in specialties "World economy ", " Hospitality service and tourism " and "Jurisprudence";
    • Branch in the state farm "Bogorodskoe" (area of Tula) has workshops on " Mechanization of agriculture " and "Agronomy";
    • The branch in the city of Sochi (Krasnodar region) prepares experts in such directions like "Economics", " Agro-economics ", "History", "Philology".

 The Charter and administration

The Peoples' Friendship University of Russia functions on the basis of its own Charter providing a high level of independence of University in whole and the autonomy of its divisions in questions of internal self-management and organization of educational process. The charter of the University, and the additions to it are accepted by the Conference of the University and approved by the Ministry of education of Russian Federation. A conference of University, besides that, selects Scientific Council of the University, the Rector of the University and adopts the rules of the internal schedule. According to the Charter the general management of the University is carried out by the elective representative body - Scientific Council elected for the period of five years.

The Rector of the University is selected from among the professors and teachers for the period of five years. He is also the Chairman of Scientific Council and has wide powers on all matters of the school's governance.

Now Acting RECTOR is the doctor of medical sciences, Professor Dmitri P. Bilibin. The Minister of education of Russian Federation, former rector of PFUR, Professor Vladimir M. Filippov takes part in the management of the University as the Chairman of Trustees council.

The chair of the President of the University was introduced in June 1993 and doctor of economic sciences, Professor Vladimir F. Stanis was elected to take it.

Studying at PFUR

The educational process at the basic faculties of the University is carried out according to the multilevel system, standard in world practice of higher education, while PFUR was the first of the Russian Universities to introduce it in 1989. The formation of the Bachelors, Masters and diploma experts is carried out in 37 majors and specialties. The training is conducted according to syllabuses corresponding to state educational standards.

The academic degree of the Bachelor is conferred after performance of the educational program including humanitarian, social and economic, natural and scientific, professional and special subjects. The duration of training in Bachelor program together with study within one year at the Faculty of foreign languages and general educational disciplines (preparatory faculty) makes 5 years. Volume of classes makes 27 - 30 hours per one week. The students pursue educational, industrial, scientific, pedagogical practical work as well. The course is finalized with state examinations and graduation thesis. After the successful completion of study the Bachelor Degree is conferred and the State Diploma indicating the specialty and qualification is issued to the gradients.

The best Bachelors graduates, shown good results during their training can be admitted to Masters programs for two years to further profound study according to the chosen area of specialization.

The opportunity of Masters courses in direction which is not conterminous to base Bachelor specialization is offered on successful pass of the entrance tests in some disciplines of the basic educational program of the chosen direction.

Appropriate Masters professional educational programs include fundamental and practical training focused on research and pedagogical activity. The educational plans of Masters courses provide a wide choice of disciplines of specialization at maximal volume of the class work no more than 14 hours per one week on the average for all period of training, and, besides is stipulated about 27 hours of independent work per one week. The successful completion of study with defending of Master's dissertation is finished with conferring of the Master Degree and award of the State Diploma indicating the level of qualification and a specialization. The Masters course graduates have the right to enter Ph.D. programs.

The university gives an opportunity of receiving a higher practical specialization with a number of professional disciplines at higher volume of knowledge and skills necessary for practical activity.

The duration of preparation of the diploma expert together with study at the Faculty of foreign languages and general educational disciplines (preparatory faculty) makes 6-7 years depending on a specialty. Volume of classes makes 27 - 30 hours per one week, the passage by the students educational, industrial and practical seminars is provided. A closing stage of training is the defense of degree thesis after what the State Diploma is issued together with assignment of the appropriate qualification of the expert. The Diploma course graduates have the right to enroll to Ph.D. programs.

After completion of training at Medical faculty in the specialty " General medicine " (6 years of training, not counting one year training at preparatory faculty) gradients are awarded with the State Diploma of general practitioner and the degree " Doctor of medicine " (M.D.). Those graduates in major "Dentistry" (5 years of training, not counting one year training at preparatory faculty) are awarded with the State Diploma and the degree of Master of Science in Dentistry.

Graduates in the specialty "Pharmacy" (5 years of training, not counting one year training at preparatory faculty) are awarded with the State diploma and the degree of Master of Science in Pharmacy.

At the Agricultural faculty the gradients in major "Veterinary medicine" (term of training 5 years, not counting one year training at preparatory faculty) are awarded with the State diploma and the degree of Doctor in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery.

The training of the students on the full-time form is carried out at all faculties of the University in all majors and specialties. At the Faculty of humanities and social sciences, philological, economics and law faculties the evening and correspondence branches function as well. The training in the form of correspondence is conducted at the majority of the faculties of the University.

Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

The faculty of humanities and social sciences offers a wide spectrum of the programs of preparation of the experts in the field of historical, philosophical and social sciences. The contents of training and type of the received diplomas are predetermined by the choice of a specialty (major) or specialization. The faculty carries out preparation on 4 directions (majors) at the level of the Bachelor of Arts and 6 specializations at the level of Master of Arts and also on 2 specialties at diploma level.

The Faculty of humanities and social sciences consists of 9 departments representing the following directions of studies: history, philosophy, sociology, philology, international relations, state and municipal management.

Bachelor program

After 5 years of training including 1 year at the Faculty of foreign languages and general educational disciplines (preparatory faculty) the students receive the State diploma of higher education with assignment on the chosen direction of preparation of the Degree of Bachelor of Arts in major course. The diplomas and the Degrees of Bachelors entitle their owners to work in their professional spheres and on pedagogical services educational institutions and scientific and governing establishments.

The foreign students after study of a cycle of psychological disciplines and passing an examination in Russian receive the certificate of the interpreter. The Russian students after successful passing an examination in foreign language receive specially stipulated for the students of a humanitarian cycle confirmed with the certificate of the interpreter of a foreign language.

Master's and Ph.D. programs

The graduates (Bachelors of Arts) can continue training in one of 6 specializations (majors) of Master's program for a two-year cycle of the profound specialization on the elected direction of study. The graduates will receive the State Diploma and conferred the Degree of Master of Arts in relevant field of study according to the received specialization (major). They can work in research, cultural, sociological, publishing establishments, centers and services in mass media, in bodies of municipal and state management, and also to teach in the educational institutions.
Russian graduates receive the Certificate of interpreter of a foreign language, and foreign graduates receive the Certificate of the interpreter of Russian. The graduates of Master's program have the right to enroll in Ph.D. programs. The Faculty has Dissertation Councils for Ph.D. and Doctorate programs.

The base program of training includes a cycle of natural sciences, cycle of the basic medical sciences, cycle of clinical disciplines and practices. The term of education in major "General Medicine" makes 7 years of training (including 1 year at the Faculty of foreign languages and general educational disciplines). The duration of the term of training for student with majors "Dentistry" and "Pharmacy" makes 6 years (including 1 year at the Faculty of foreign languages and general educational disciplines - preparatory faculty). Six Dissertation Councils function at the Medical faculty.

Faculty of Sciences

The base level of university education is Bachelor course with 5 years of training (including 1 year at the Faculty of foreign languages and general educational disciplines). The graduates qualify to work in research and design establishments, centers and laboratories, educational institutions. They also can continue with Master's and Ph.D. programs where admission is on contest basis.

Bachelor program

The students alongside with study of fundamental and special disciplines in classical natural and research directions "Physics", "Mathematics", " Applied mathematics ", " Applied mathematics and computer science ", "Chemistry", pass also cycle of pedagogical training and receive in addition to the basic diploma the certificate of the teacher of physics (mathematics or chemistry).
The students who have chosen a specialty (major) of more applied character "Radio-physics and electronics" instead of additional pedagogical discipline study the appropriate cycle of the special profound subjects at a choice. The graduates of this specialty (major) receive the State diploma of the expert in the field of radio-physics and electronics.

Master's and Ph.D. programs

Master's program is intended for the further deepening of preparation at one of 14 specializations according to a student's choice. On completion of 2 years of training the graduates receive the diploma of the third level and conferred an academic degree of Master of sciences with the indication of the area of specialization. The Master's program graduates can work in research, design, industrial establishments, in research centers, laboratories and at the enterprises, in computer centers, to teach in higher educational institutions. They also have the right to enroll for Ph.D. programs. Four Dissertation Councils operate at the Faculty on award of scientific degrees of the candidate and doctor of sciences.

Faculty offers the evening, correspondence and distant learning programs. The reduced term of training for the persons with higher education is available as well.

Bachelor program

The Bachelor course students study bases of economy simultaneously with general theoretical and special disciplines within the framework of the chosen specialty (major). The area of work of the Bachelors - economists assumes various kinds of economic, planning and analytical, and accountancy and financial activity at the enterprises, in state, public and commercial establishments and organizations. The graduates may enter Master's programs for the profound specialization in the chosen area of economics.

Master's and Ph.D. programs

Master's program is intended for the profound specialization in the chosen sphere of economics. Upon termination of two-year cycle the graduates get the State diploma of the third level with assignment of Master's degree in economic sciences. The students pass an intensive rate of study of one of foreign languages - English, French, German or Spanish. The Master's course graduates face the wide opportunities for responsible work in sphere of management, business, finance in establishments and firms of state or private sector of economy. Seven departments of the faculty conduct preparation of the experts in the field of philological sciences, linguistics and journalism. The contents of training and type of the received diplomas are predetermined by a choice of the major or specialization. Bachelor program

The training is performed in 3 majors: philology, linguistics, and journalism. The duration is 5 years (including 1 year at the Faculty of foreign languages and general educational disciplines). The graduates receive the State diploma and Bachelor of Arts degree in the chosen field of studies.
The diplomas of the Bachelors entitle the graduates to work in mass media, in scientific and educational establishments. The foreign students study of a cycle of psychological disciplines and passing an examination in Russian receive the certificate allowing them to teach Russian. The Russian students receive the certificate of the interpreter of a foreign language.

Master's and Ph.D. programs

The Bachelor can continue education in one of 6 specializations of Master's programs for a two-year cycle of the profound specialization on the chosen specialty (major). The graduates receive the State diploma of the third level with assignment of an academic degree of Master of Arts. The Master's course graduates according to the received specialization can work in research, cultural, educational, information and publishing establishments, centers and services, in mass media, and also to teach in secondary and higher educational institutions. Bachelor program

The graduates receive the State diploma and degree of the Bachelor of sciences and certain qualification according to the chosen direction. The students who studied "Zoo-techniques" after graduation receive the degree of Bachelor of sciences in the area zoo engineering, which assumes work in various branches of animal industries.

The degree of the Bachelor of sciences in the area of "Agro-economics" gives the qualification of the economist of agriculture that enables professional activity in various branches of agricultural manufacture.

The graduates with major "Veterinary Medicine" receive the State diploma and the qualification of the Doctor of veterinary medicine and surgery. They can work at the cattle-breeding enterprises and farms and in veterinary clinics.

The students who successfully finished Bachelor courses can pursue a two-year cycle of the profound specialization, which is carried out in Master's programs. All majors of Bachelor programs aimed at preparation of the technical and administrative staff for operation in industrial works, business and structures of management.

Major course "Mechanical Engineering" includes business with designing, manufacture of technological systems and their management, processing of materials in ready products. The program of training is developed with the purpose of creation of the strong base in professional training for future work in industry, business, sphere of service; it is a base for the further study in the field of technology, equipment and automation of machine-building manufactures. Distinctive feature of this program is that it gives the student clear understanding of the basic laws both problems of modern mechanical engineering and processes of manufacture, and also necessary skills and methods of the solution of new tasks.

The major course " Geology and exploration of deposits of minerals " is based on the four-years educational program, which performance gives the students complete geological education allowing them to be considered as independent experts. The program provides preparation in the field of theoretical, technical and applied geological disciplines. The basic emphasis in the program is made on geological interpretation and correct use of knowledge about materials, superficial and internal structures, and dynamic processes in development of the Earth.

Bachelor program in "Automation and control" makes the basic emphasis on development and management of the automated systems with use of computer methods of the control. The program is subject to give solid theoretical and applied preparation in the field of manufacture of interactive systems, microprocessor devices, control systems and processing of the information.

Bachelor program in " Power engineering " includes cycles on designing, manufacture and work of engines of internal combustion, and also steam and gas turbines. The program in "Civil engineering " includes study of general knowledge in chemistry, physics, mathematics and engineering business, some intensive special disciplines, such as engineering of water supply, mechanics, soil science, and materials science. The main task of the program - to generate the student into a professional engineer capable to solve various tasks in the sphere of construction of industrial, civil and hydraulic engineering objects.

Master's and Ph.D. programs

Master's program is given within 2 years; its aim is further deepening of preparation according to the chosen area of specialization. The graduates receive the State diploma and a degree of Master of sciences in the field of construction, mechanical engineering, geology, mining engineering, architecture etc. They can work as senior engineers at the enterprises, in research and design organizations, in higher educational institutions. The ecological faculty being one of the first educational establishments of the given profile in Russia is intended for preparation of the experts in the field of ecology and nature utilization. The first 5 years of training (including 1 year - at the Faculty of foreign languages and general educational disciplines) are intended for passage of the basic level of higher education - Bachelor program. The graduates receive the State diploma and a degree of Bachelor of sciences in the field of ecology. They can join Master's program for more profound two-year training on the chosen specialization. The graduates with a degree of Bachelor in the field of ecology can work on engineering and expert posts in various bodies of management on protection of the environment, in divisions of the ecological control and supervision, at the production enterprises, in design and research organizations.

Master's and Ph.D. programs

The Master's courses are conducted at the departments of system ecology, industrial ecology and protection of labor, radioecology, human ecology, ecological monitoring and forecasting. The training of the students according to the chosen specialization goes on for 2 years. The graduates receive the State diploma of the third level and a degree of Master of sciences in the field of system ecology, industrial ecology, human ecology, and radioecology and in the field of ecological monitoring.

The graduates of ecological faculty with the degree of Master of sciences can work on responsible administrative, engineering and expert posts in federal, regional and local bodies of state management, bodies of the ecological control and supervision, at the enterprises, in design and research organizations and establishments, and also to teach in higher educational institutions. This is a two-year cycle; the graduates get the State diploma of the third level with an academic Master's degree. The lawyers, who have received a degree of Master, have necessary qualification for work on responsible posts in administrative and managerial bodies of any level and various legal and security services. They can also work according to the received qualification in research establishments and centers, to teach in educational institutions. There is a possibility for Ph.D. courses in various departments of the Faculty of Law. The researches are considered and estimated by the Dissertation council for legal sciences.

The PFU Russia represents unique multinational collective: the representatives of more than 450 nationalities and tribes from 114 countries of the world are trained here.

Campus

Students' campus of the University is located in a park zone in the southwest of Moscow - one of most picturesque and ecologically cleans corners of the Russian capital. There are 9 hostels, sports complex, international cultural center, polyclinic, sanatorium, shopping center, international telegraph, telephone and post offices, bank branch, bookshop, hairdressing saloons, numerous restaurants and cafe.

Two Moscow Underground stations are located near by. It takes about 30 minutes to the students to reach the center of Moscow city.

Hostels

On enrolment to the University all students undergo medical check-up and settled in the hostel.
The cost of residing depends on a type and category of the hostel. All hostels have cafe, rooms for rest, telephones, kitchens, washrooms. The television center of the University allows receiving in hostels up to 10 programs of the Russian TV and 4 programs of satellite TV of foreign countries.

After classes life

Alongside with educational the Administration of the University pays grate attention to work with the students after classes. This work has the purpose of all-round development of spiritual and physical opportunities of the students, rallying them in uniform international collective, wide acquaintance with life, national cultures, and traditions of the peoples of Russia and other countries.

The Department for Students' affairs carries out the organization and coordination of these activities in scales of the University. The teachers-advisers organize Work with national and international organizations of the students.

After classes activity is conducted on the following basic directions:

    • Acquaintance of the students with the legislation of Russian Federation, with their rights and duties, normative certificates (acts) and instructions about visa, passport and customs modes, rules of the internal schedule of University, rules of residing in hostels of University;

    • Rendering of the organizational help and coordination of activity to international and national students' public organizations created and working at the University according to its Charter;

Students' organizations

According to the Charter the students of the University have the right to set up public associations and organizations. More than 70 various international and national public organizations work at PFUR. The students' organizations carry out the activity on the basis of the Charters or Rules authorized by the President's Council of the University. Students' committees of the faculties, councils of hostels, female committee and national unions of the students play the most important role in the life of PFUR.

The students' committees of faculties are elected annually at conferences or assemblies of the faculties. Their main tasks are:

    • attraction of the students to participation in management of faculties;
    • development of their public activity;
    • protection of interests of the students;
    • rendering of the help in solution of arising educational, social or domestic problems;
    • assistance to dean's office and faculties in realization of educational and scientific activity.

Students' committees on preparation and realization of various cultural, public and sports functions carry out the large work. The students' committees regularly report about the work at sessions of Scientific council and at the Presidents' council. The chairmen of students' committees are the members of Scientific council of the faculties and of the Presidents' council.

Councils of hostels are elected annually at assemblies of the students living in them. They assist administration of the University in maintenance of hostels, carry out the control of observance by the students of the rules of residing and internal schedule in hostels, if necessary apply with the offers and inquiries to the administration and various divisions of the University.

The female committee of the University is selected annually and unites representatives of different countries. The female committee carries out measures promoting creation of conditions for normal study, life and rest of girls, development their spiritual, moral and aesthetic outlook, public health services, children's education, organizes meetings with the figures of a science and culture, representatives of various female public organizations of Russia. The chairman of Female committee is the member of the Presidents' council.

The representatives of students' committees of the faculties, councils of hostels and Female committee take part in development, acceptance and perfection of the University's normative acts, touching interests of the students of PFUR.

The Presidents' council registers national unions of the students of one country. Every union has its own Charter, structure and managing bodies. The basic tasks of the students' unions are:

    • rendering assistance to the compatriots in adaptation to conditions of life and study in Moscow
    • protection of interests of the students, rendering of help in the decision of arising educational, domestic and social problems
    • strengthening of unity of the students from one country
    • consolidation of friendship, cooperation and mutual understanding with the students from other countries, trained at the University.

The students' unions every 3 years report about their work at the session of the Presidents' council.

Administration of the University, heads of divisions, dean's offices of faculties, the public organizations render to the students' unions all-round help and support in their activity.

Apart from 41 national students' unions, two regional organizations of the foreign students - Association of the African students and Federation of the students from the countries of Latin America and Caribbean operate at the University.

Rector, vice-rectors, chiefs of divisions of the University meet with the chairmen of student's committees of the faculties, councils of hostels and Female committee twice a year, and once a year with the chairmen of national students' unions and regional organizations.

Sports

All necessary conditions for physical culture and sports are created at the PFUR campus. Sports complex includes sports structures for indoor and outdoor activities. The covered sports complex with halls for mini-football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, fitness exercise, karate, acrobatics, and athletic gymnastics. There is a well-equipped skating ring and ski base. Stadium, grassy covered, with 4 racing synthetic paths and tribunes for 2000 men. Three fields for game in football. Field for game in baseball and softball with tribunes for 300 men. Eleven tennis courts (3 covered with synthetic covering, 6 - on the ground and 2 with asphalt covering). The open areas for game in basketball and volleyball.

The students of the University have an opportunity to be engaged in the following sections: football, volleyball, basketball, tennis, table tennis, swimming, karate, athletic gymnastics, acrobatics, fitness, softball, arm-wrestling, chess.

Training with the students is carried out by more than 30 teachers and instructors (among them - masters of sports of the international class, ex-champions of Russia, international sports judges). The sports teams of University take part in the championship of Moscow in many kinds of sports. The internal University's championships are held annually in basketball, volleyball, light athletics, ski, football, table tennis, and chess. The teams of national students unions take part in various kinds of sports.

Cultural activity

At the University the large attention is given to questions of organization of rest of the students, their cultural, art and aesthetic education.

Each afternoon the international cultural center of the University invites students according to their interests. Two usual cafes, "Internet-cafe", discotheques work daily. National students unions make parties devoted to national holidays. Many international students of PFUR are known as professional actors, musicians. Some of the national collectives of art amateur performance participate in different festivals, act in concert halls of Moscow.
There are 15 art collectives and circles, among them - choreographic, vocal and theatrical collectives, club author's songs, folklore, vocal and choreographic ensembles of the students' unions. The Rhythms of Friendship and folklore studio "Rainbow" are widely known as an international choreographic ensemble of PFUR.

The most popular events in the cultural life of the University are "Melodies and rhythms of continents", competitions "MISS PFUR" and "MISTER PFUR", traditional Russian student's holiday "Tatiana's day", week of culture of the peoples of the countries of Africa, students' folklore festival "the Peoples of Russia".

Thousands of Moscow residents take part in a traditional international folklore holiday, which is organized annually on the 1-st of May on the central square of the University's campus.

Maintenance of the public order and safety

The University pays a special attention to questions of maintenance of the public order and safety of the students. The Service of protection of the public order including about 200 officers and watchmen functions at PFUR. Besides the unit of the city's police protects the territory of the University. The basic tasks of the security service are protection of public order and prevention of crimes and offences concerning the students, maintenance of the public order and safety in educational premises and hostels, on the territory students' campus

 Russian language at PFUR

Russian, being a subject of intensive study for the foreign students, is one of the most important directions of training at the University.

6 departments of Russian language function at PFUR: 3 of them within the faculty of foreign languages and general educational disciplines (preparatory faculty). Department of Russian Language and methodic of its teaching and Department General and Russian Linguistics function within the Philological faculty.

All Russian language departments provide a high level of teaching due to long-term experience and high qualification of the faculties involved. 28 professors, 112 senior lecturers, 25 senior teachers conduct classes.

The basic scientific directions of the activities are as follows:

    • Functional, systematic and typological description of various languages with the purposes of their teaching;
    • Development of theoretical and practical bases of teaching of Russian as foreign language.

Many widely known all over the world programs and textbooks ensuring teaching of Russian as foreign on new techniques were developed at PFUR. More than 17 years the teachers of the Department of Russian language work at the Space Center where all foreign spacemen studied Russian under their instruction.

The Departments of Russian take active part in various national and international symposiums both scientific conferences and congresses organized under International association of the teachers of Russian and literature, and maintain membership at the Russian Association of the teachers of Russian and literature.

The Center of Russian on realization of the all-Russian target program "Russian language" functions at PFUR.

Postgraduate studies

PFUR has acquired scientific traditions transmitted from generation to generation. For 40 years of the existence it has brought up a number of the outstanding scientists in scientific, humanitarian and other fields of knowledge. Postgraduate studies include Ph.D. programs in 120 specialties, clinical specialization in 48 specialties and 24 Doctorate programs. Scientific and is scientific - pedagogical courses are offered too.

Doctor of Philosophy - Ph.D. programs are available on competitive basis for Russian and foreign Master's Degree holders having creative achievement in scientific work.

Term of Ph.D. full-time program training - 3 years, while the course by correspondence lasts 4 years. Foreign citizens may have an increased full-time term of training of 4 years for learning the Russian language.

The admission to Ph.D. programs of the citizens of Russian Federation and having the rights, equal with them, the citizens of the Republics of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgizstan is carried out according to the schedule of enrolment of the post-graduate students authorized by Ministry of education of Russia on the scholarship basis. The citizens of other countries can be accepted in Ph.D. studies either according to the scholarships allocated to their countries on the inter-government level or on the basis of the contracts with complete indemnification of expenses on training and additional services at the rates confirmed annually by the Administration of the University.

Those foreign citizens approved for admission to the University are officially invited to arrive in Russia and visa support is made through Embassies (consulates) of the Russian Federation in the appropriate countries.

The citizens of foreign countries are accepted to Ph.D. correspondence programs on a contract basis and pay the training at the rate of 70 % of cost of full-time training for the given specialty. They are authorized to submit a thesis on scientific subjects connected to a theme of the future dissertation, which positive estimation replaces entrance examinations (thesis can be written in Russian, English, French and Spanish languages).

Admission to clinical specialization is possible for Russian and foreign medical practitioners ( MBBS and MD holders) on a competitive basis.

Only the full-time training is carried out for clinical specialization courses on specialties stipulated within the Departments of the Medical faculty of the University.

Term of training in clinical specialization is from 2 till 5 years. Foreign citizens may pursue an increased term by one year for learning of Russian.

The Faculty of improvement of professional skill of the teachers of Russian and the Center of organization of preparation and retraining of the experts provide a variety of refresher and advanced courses.

 Research

The PFUR is a large center of science where 300 doctors and more than 800 candidates of sciences ( Ph.D. holders) conduct multi-purpose research. For last 3 years 167 monographs, 58 textbooks and 485 manuals have been published at the University.

More than 500 employees of the University are the registered inventors and rationalizes. The intellectual fund of PFUR is made with the descriptions of the inventions of more than 870 copyright certificates and of 150 patents of Russian Federation practically on all directions of scientific activity of the University.

Ph.D. dissertations on 58 specialties executed by the post-graduate students and the employees of PFUR and from other scientific and educational organizations are being assessed by the Dissertation Councils. There are 30 Dissertation Councils including 12 councils having the right of assessment of the dissertations of a scientific degree of the Doctor of Sciences (D.Sc.) which is the top degree of sciences.

The University participates in performance of scientific research and design works on priority scientific directions on the orders of the Russian and foreign companies.

The research work involves professors and teachers of the University, regular scientific employees, staff of the faculties, post-graduate students, trainees and other students.

It is necessary to note that the presence in PFUR of the large number of faculties, departments, specialties of a various direction enables to carry out joint and complex scientific researches both of the applied and fundamental character.

Computing facilities

For last five years the new University's computer network is created qualitatively on the basis of modern information and telecommunication technologies. The Center for Information Technologies ensuring development and maintenance of the network is created.

The information support of educational process and scientific researches is provided to the on the basis of computer classes and PC workstations connected to the uniform network of the University. All PFUR territories are covered with local networks with Internet access, assessable to the teachers and students. More than 700 workstations, 30 computer classes and 25 servers are functioning within the networks. The computer and office equipment supplies all faculties and research laboratories of the University. The students can use network services depending on the educational plans of the training.

New forms of educational activity on the basis of information and telecommunication technologies are being introduces at PFUR lately. Institute of Distant Learning for training the students in a number of general educational disciplines has been created. Educational materials of the institute are delivered to students on electronic carriers: diskettes, CD-ROMs etc. The system of computer testing is carried out at the entrance examinations and at the semester sessions as well.

Library

The library of PFUR with branches at different faculties and 13 reading halls with 720 seats has book fund of 1,600.000 volumes of scientific, art and other literature. The library receives more than 400 editions of the Russian magazines and newspapers, and also dozens of foreign scientific periodic editions. Funds of the library are used by more than 12 thousand readers, which have the right to use any other library in Moscow. The library is equipped with copy machines for preparation of copies from the literature on the applications of the readers. A special display hall with an output in Internet is open for the students and teachers.

The catalogues of the literature are conducted in traditional (on cards) and electronic forms.

Annually book funds of the library replenish by 20-30 thousand volumes.

The service of the students, post-graduate students, trainees and teachers of the University is conducted free-of-charge.

International cooperation

An appreciable place in realization of the international activity of a higher school of Russia belongs to PFUR. It plays a leading role in formation and professional training of the foreign citizens in Russia, including postgraduate forms of training, improvement of professional skill and additional formation with the use of distant learning methods. The University is the member of the International association of universities, Association of the rectors of universities of the world (Euro-Asian section), International academy of sciences of a higher school, International council on management of scientific researches; it plays a significant role in Association of the Russian high schools, Euro-Asian association of universities, Association of technical universities. PFUR has acted as one of the founders of the Network of cooperation of universities of Europe and Central Asia, Academic network of universities of the countries of East and Southern Europe, has taken part in activity of organization of universities of the countries of the Black Sea region, participates in Zaltsburg seminars (Austria) of the workers of higher school. Many employees, professor and teachers of University take part in the international professional associations and unions of the workers of education, scientific and academic societies, such as, for example, International academy of sciences of a higher school.

The university supports business contacts with embassies and other representations of the foreign states in Moscow interested firms and establishments, holds academic meetings of the outstanding scientists, figures of culture and art, politicians, businessmen, publicists from many overseas countries.

The basis of such fruitful mutual relations is invariable pluralism of thinking, style of life and social foundations of the various states, respect of national traditions and customs, human values and priorities of education, consolidation of friendship and understanding between the peoples. This activity is carried out by the Council on organization and coordination of the international cooperation, which operates under the Scientific Council of the University.

The university is a basic Russian higher educational institution in the field of teaching Russian as foreign language. This important function is realized by 245 teachers of five specialized departments of the University. The long-term creative communications are established with the International association of the teachers of Russian and literature, and also with Institute of Russian Language named after A.Pushkin, where joint international conferences are regularly organized.

Association of the PFUR Friends

The establishment at the University such international public organization as Association of PFUR friends is quite natural taking into account 36,000 graduates of the University working in 164 countries of the world.

It was created on February 8, 1994 at a Constituent conference in Moscow. The conference adopted the Charter of Association, the managing bodies - Council and Auditing commission were elected, the executive management was appointed.

The president of the Association is the graduate of physical and mathematical faculty the senior lecturer Dr. A.N.Osovitsky, general director - graduate of a faculty of law the senior lecturer Dr. V.A.Belov. The Association of friends has the status of the international non-governmental organization. Its conferences will be held annually.

Now Association unites about 1000 individual members - graduates from Russia and other countries, and also 8 collective members. It supports fruitful contacts with associations and organized groups of the PFUR graduates, working in the countries of Asia, Africa, Latin America and Europe, renders assistance in strengthening creative, business and personal contacts with the Alma Mater.

At the same time due to support of the members the Association brings in the essential contribution to PFUR progress, its faculties and departments, helps to the Scholarship Fund and to the Fund of development of the University. The means of the Association, directed on expansion of the Scholarship Fund, promote strengthening of international structure and creative potential of the students by material support grants to needy Russian and foreign students.

The representations of Association of Friends have been created in India, Nigeria, Tanzania, Kenya, Syria, Lebanon, Nepal, Holland, Belgium, Cyprus. The "PFUR-club" represents wide opportunities of professional and business people - the graduates of the University from Russia and foreign countries.
